J. P. Soars & The Red Hots SHAKESPEAR'S PUB 14129 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079
JP Soars was born in California, raised in Arkansas, and moved to South Florida in 1985. His musical influences are not just based in the Blues. "I love Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan… but I don't try to play like them. I listen to the guys they listened to, like Albert King, Johnny Guitar Watson, T-bone Walker, Muddy Waters and Guitar Slim. I'm also very into Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery as well as horn players like Louie Jordan".
A trip to Memphis to meet Blues legend Jessie Mae Hemphill and a chance meeting with Cigar box guitar pioneer John Lowe opened another door of musical majesty to a very receptive JP. In February 2009, J.P. Soars and the Red Hots made their second trip to the International Blues Challenge, the world’s largest Blues competition. They took top honors over 150 international Blues acts, and J.P. won the Albert King Award as the world’s best-unsigned Blues guitarist.
Last year Soars released his debut album “Back Of My Mind,” which is presently getting strong airplay on Sirius -XM B.B. King’s Bluesville Picks to Click and other stations worldwide. Soars has performed at major Blues festivals throughout the country and beyond including the Eureka Springs Festival in AR, Gladstone Festival in Kansas City, Montreal Jazz and Blues festival, Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, Telluride Blues Festival in Colorado, Heritage Festival in West Virginia and The Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise, among others.
